Project Focus
The GSMA Weather Station Deployment & Agro-Met Advisory Project was designed to strengthen climate resilience among farmers by improving access to reliable, localized, and actionable weather information. WeatherWalay served as a key execution partner to BaKhabar Kissan (BKK), supporting the deployment of 155 Automated Weather Stations and contributing meteorological expertise to generate hyper-local weather insights for farmer-facing advisory systems. The project also enhanced IVR and call centre services through Automatic Speech Recognition, and developed a proactive agri-risk management system for pest and disease alerts.
To improve climate resilience and livelihood protection for farmers in Pakistan by deploying localized weather infrastructure and disseminating accurate, timely, and actionable agro-meteorological information through farmer-friendly communication channels.
Deployment of 155 automated weather stations reduces the data gap in rural areas and improves access to localized observations for agriculture decision-making.
Farmers are better equipped to anticipate weather changes, manage climate risks, and protect crops and livelihoods from avoidable losses.
Hyper-local agro-met advisories support improved decisions around irrigation, sowing, harvesting, fertiliser use, and field operations.
Risk-based alerts help farmers take preventive action against pest and disease outbreaks before they escalate into major crop losses.
Enhanced IVR, call centre, and speech-enabled systems make weather and agriculture advisories more accessible to farmers with limited digital literacy.
The project establishes a scalable model combining weather infrastructure, advisory services, and farmer communication systems to support agriculture resilience in Pakistan.
Pakistan's agriculture sector remains highly exposed to climate variability, yet many farming communities operate without access to accurate local weather data. By combining 155 automated weather stations, hyper-local agro-met intelligence, and enhanced farmer advisory channels, the project demonstrates how localized weather infrastructure and digital advisory systems can strengthen farmer resilience and support climate-smart agriculture at scale.
